Dec. 10, 2016, Milligan College will celebrate a historic milestone; the university's 150th birthday.

In a recent article in the Johnson City Press, Milligan College has "witnessed the invention of the lightbulb, the birth of rock ‘n’ roll and the rise — and fall — of bell-bottom jeans", and now, is planning a huge celebration of the community icon's historic milestone birthday.

Vice President for Institutional Advancement,  Jack Simpson told the Johnson City Press recently that Milligan College has been planning a celebration of the historic milestone for the past two years, gathering suggestions for the celebration from the college community.  The polling resulted in the creation of a new commemorative commons called the Sesquicentennial Plaza, which will be constructed in an open area outside the southeast entrance of the P.H. Welshimer Library. The commons is to be located on a  prominent part of campus.

To help fund the milestone celebration, To pay for the celebration, Milligan plans to sell a historical book, featuring photos of the college throughout its lifespan. The college is also offering the opportunity for people to purchase bricks that will be incorporated into the Sesquicentennial Plaza, and can be emblazoned with the purchaser’s name or the names of loved ones and can be made available through a $150 gift to the Milligan Sesquicentennial Plaza Commemorative Brick Program. To date, about 400 bricks have been purchased.

Milligan College is a great icon to the region. The Shields Team of Keller Williams Realty extends their congratulations to the university, and is proud to share the community with this great institution!
