Kid Friendly Events At Roan Mountain Naturalist Rally Sept 10

The 54th annual Fall Naturalist Rally, which takes place the weekend after Labor Day in Roan Mountain TN, has a host of great events for nature lovers including the kid variety. This year's event will offer ten "kid friendly" hikes and activities during the daytime hours onSaturday, September 10.  

The Fall Naturalist Rally is an event that is part of the Friends of Roan Mountain organization, and holds several events during the year. In the Johnson City Press this week, an article just released notes keynote speakers for conferences at the event, which will include a buffet dinner bothFridayandSaturday; many adventure excursions and discovery of wildlife in the Roan Mountain State Park. AND! Best of all, the events at the Fall Naturalist Rally will include a variety of events for youth who want to learn more about nature and the state park. 

A schedule of events for youth have been posted at the Xtreme Roan Adventures website, .  This year's rally promises a ton of fun adventures for kids! The schedule is below:

9:00 – 10:15 a.m.

Adventure 1 – (75 minute) – Junior Adventure – Girl Scout Troop #263  from Kingsport, TN.

Adventure 2 – (75 minute) – Snakes Adventure with Connie Deegan.

Adventure 3 – (75 minute) – Wet Rocks Geology with Jeremy Stout – (bring creek shoes and change of socks & shoes) Go here to listen to a preview the Wet Rocks Geology Adventure.

Adventure 4 – (75 minute) – Salamander Safari  – R.M.S.P. Interpretive Ranger Kyle.

Adventure 5 – (75 minute) – Discover Birds with Birders Jean and Brookie Potter.

10:30 – 11:45 a.m.

Adventure 6 – (75 minute) – Junior Adventure – with Jennifer Stout.

Adventure 7 – (75 Minute) – Spider Adventure – with TJ Jones

Adventure 9 – (75 minute) – Animal Tracking with Joe McGuiness from the U.S. Forest Service.

Adventure 10 – ( 75 minute) – Creepy Crawlers with Cade Campbell, Master Naturalist. 

Adventure 11 – (75 minute) – Bee Adventure with Eric Rayfield, the SAHC  Roan Naturalists.

Activity  12 – Nature Crafts with  Tracy Campbell and Bettye Boone.

Adventure 13 – Birds of Prey with Frank and Doreen Read from Bays Mountain Park.

Adventure 14 – Reptiles with Eric Rayfield from Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy

Adventure 15 – Wildlife Helper Adventure with Denise Shadduck. 

Adventure 16 – Fossil Casting with Dr. Mick Whitelaw from E.T.S.U. Dept of GeoSciences.

Adventure  17 – Leave No Trace – Alice Cohen U.S. Forest Service


LUNCH    in Conference Center


1:30 – until  ( you can stop any time  but we usually are finished by 4:30 p.m. )
