Even a single room remodel can be 'big' and seem to grow as it progresses, but how would you feel about taking on the expansive remodel on the famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel? Oh yes friends, it would be BIG.
The Wall Street Journal reports this week that the Chinese acquirer, Anbang Insurance Group Co., of the Waldorf Astoria is finalizing plans for an extensive overhaul that would shut the landmark New York hotel for up to three years and convert as many as three-quarters of its rooms into private apartments. (Could you live without your kitchen for THREE YEARS?) And, price tag? A whopping $1 billion+ in addition to the purchase price of $1.95 billion.
Once the hotel renovations are complete, the hotel will offer between 300 and 500 updated luxury guest rooms, compared to approximately 1100 current rooms. The remaining units are planned to be sold as condominiums once the project is complete.
